      Generally sound. There are stains on several parts of the dress. Missing rhinestone works, loose stitches at the base of the bodice. Signs of previous repair at seams and straps.

Scope and Content

A medium-length black organza pleated dress by Victor Edelstein for ['Rhapsody in Blue']. The dress is ruched at the waist and adorned with hand-stitched rhinestones at front and back, as well as a diamante detail and organza back sash. The bodice of the dress is lined, boned at the sides and fastens on the inside with a strap under the bust, it also includes an outer back zip and hook and eye fastening. It features a diamante panel at the collar and diamante spaghetti straps that fasten at the back of bodice with press buttons.

The dress also comprises a hand-stitched label stating "Victor Edelstein London".

There is no photographic evidence that this costume was worn for a performance of 'Rhapsody in Blue'; please refer to photocopy of Victor Edelstein's sketches of costume in production file.
