Administrative / Biographical History

Captain John W. Howard (b 1917) was educated at Gresham's School andMagdalene College, Cambridge, taking the post of district officer, Kenya, 1939.He served in the 5th Battalion, King's African Rifles, Kenya, Somalia,Abyssinia and Madagascar, 1940-1944. He was supervisor, colonial servicecourses, Cambridge, 1951-1953, senior district commissioner, Kenya, 1957, andexecutive officer, African land development, from the same year. He wasChairman of the Land Development and Settlement Board, 1962-1963,temporary Principal, D.T.C., 1963 and Overseas Development Ministry, 1964.
