Administrative / Biographical History

Northampton College of Education was founded in 1972, located on a new campus in Moulton Park, Northampton. It brought together two institutions. One was the Kirkby Fields Teacher Training College which was relocated from its former home in Liverpool. The second was an outpost of the City of Leicester Training College, which had opened in 1966 at the John Clare School in Northampton specifically to cater for mature students.

The college ceased to function as an independent unit in 1975, when it was amalgamated with the Northampton School of Art and College of Technology to form Nene College. At this time a second outpost of the City of Leicester Training College, based at Corby since 1966, was also incorporated.
