Topics of correspondence include personal business such as applications for work, literacy works on astrology and a certificate of illness (Mss Eur F88/55/29 contains a certificate of illness to support Lieutenant Smith's inability to travel to Poona due to a liver disorder). Letters also focus on the actions of the Company during the Third Maratha War such as negotiating with Sindia. The file also has copies of three letters from Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, regarding the defence of India against Napoleon's armies dating from 1807 to 1809
