Honours

Scope and Content

This series includes correspondence and certificates relating to various honours awarded to Geoffrey Jefferson. Some of the honours which Jefferson received included Fellowship of the Royal Society, a portrait from the SBNS, honorary degrees from the Universities of Manchester and Cambridge among others, an OBE and honorary fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and of the Royal Society of Medicine. Jefferson expresses his views on such honours in a letter to Rowbotham in 1947, see JEF/2/1/11. Most of these honours are represented in this series, along with numerous honorary memberships of medical societies around the world. Individual letters of congratulation from associates also appear in the series of professional correspondence (JEF/1/6/1) and Letters from Hugh Cairns (JEF/1/6/3/51).

Arrangement

This series has been divided into four subseries, consisting of papers relating to Jefferson's Fellowship of the Royal Society, the SBNS Portrait, Honorary Degrees, and Other Honours.
