Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie to Gertrude Bell concerning his love for Gertrude and details of his office activities in Adis Ababa

Scope and Content

Concerning content written largely in response to the contents of Gertrude's letters. Acknowledges two letters from Gertrude and more of 'the book'. Confesses that her love 'humbles' him and writes, haltingly, about his love for her. Letter dated 4 Dec 1915, a more businesslike letter in which Charles details his activities, including coordinating the successful application of the Prince of Wales' Fund and his office duties. Admits to continuing eye problems. Speculates about Russian activities in Poland.
