The file consists of separate pieces of paper containing declarations by plaintiffs and pleadings by plaintiffs and defendants in pleas between parties. Pieces for the court leet of the borough of Altrincham (53 in total) are interspersed with pieces for the court leet of the barony of Dunham Massey (62). From the evidence of thread holes the sheets were apparently once held together by a piece of string or cord inserted through each sheet. This has disappeared and the file was found as a loose bundle.
