Bundles of Weekly House and Farm Accounts

Scope and Content

The bundles contain separate weekly expenditure accounts submitted by the housekeeper, farming steward and butler at Dunham Massey. The accounts, which are roughly entered on individual pieces of paper, were subsequently copied into the household consumption account books (see EGR7/1 above). Generally for each week there is an account of the housekeeper's bills, the farming steward's account of grain and meat consumed at Dunham Massey Hall, Stables and Home Farm, and the butler's account for wines, spirits, ale and candles consumed. The accounts for one week or several weeks are folded together, with the covering dates recorded on the front. In addition to the weekly accounts, there are also inventories of livestock at Dunham Massey compiled at the beginning of 1827, 1830, 1831, 1832, 1833 and 1834.

For details of the information contained in the loose accounts see the description of the household expenditure account books (EGR7/1 above).
