Publications of Halls of Residence

Scope and Content

Many of the University's halls of residence have published magazines and newsletters over the years, addressed to both current students and alumni. One of the earliest and most significant was Yggdrasill (originally Icgdrasil), the journal of Ashburne House (later Hall), the oldest female hall of residence. Also significant were the Daltonian, the journal of Dalton Hall, and the Hulme Hall Chronicle, from another of the men's halls. These publications became less significant in the later twentieth century, with the newer halls of residence often not publishing newsletters.

The University Archives has a very limited and incomplete set of these publications. The official archives of these halls of residence will be regarded as the primary place of deposit for these publications, see for example, the Hulme Hall archive and Langdale Hall archive.
