Had to leave him rather abruptly in the lobby the night before because Mr Stansfeld had brought Mr Hopwood out of the House to speak to him about Mr C. McLaren's return 'but he as well as some other members declined to push any further question on the subject, for various reasons' When he learnt that Mr W. and some others were meeting that day at Kings Cross he sent them the latest Paarl news. Re the Devonport Council and Annis (see letter of JB to Miss Priestman ?1876) he had hoped that the Town Council would take up the matter themselves through a local MP but they have elected to let the matter drop. Mr Stansfeld has told him that in the next Session he prefers to move a Resolution rather than a Repeal Bill. Refers to the Preliminary Circular of the coming Conference (see his letter of Nov 28 and 30 Oct 1882)
