In reply to LAN/1/12/17. Agrees with Lanchester about Baldwin, but thinks that Chamberlain was quite different; is surprised that a man of scientific ability like Lanchester does not probe deeper below the surface, war is not to be considered lightly, and for a country to go to war there must be the support of a very large majority of the country; we were unprepared for war at the time of Munich; people needed to be convinced that Hitler was an unprincipled liar.
