Side one: Janet Dann's difficulty in accepting her parents' deaths; her decision to leave the Methodist Church and join the Brethren; her illness with general septicemea for two years after end of her nursing training; breaking off her engagement and rejecting another proposal of marriage from the House Physician; friendship with Kathie Morris; developing rhuematoid arthritis; life as an Assistant Matron at a Christian Convalescent Home in Exmouth; fighting depression and experiencing a 'second blessing'; her first contact with the Japan Rescue Mission (JRM).

Side two: studying at Emmanuel College, Birkenhead; acceptance by the JRM; health concerns and a JRM trek in Chester; deputation work in the UK; a visit to the House Physician; the journey to her mission station in Japan, including incidents on the train in Canada and Japan; learning Japanese and getting to know Japanese customs; children taken in by the JRM.
