Portrait of Henry Festing Jones, in a bowler hat and suit with an umbrella under his arm, standing on the pavement of a cobbled street, in front of a shop ("Poudre de Chasse"). Wooden shutters cover the windows either side of the door and blinds are pulled across the two visible first-floor windows. A vine grows up the wall above the doorway, where a sculpted figure with a pipe and turban protrudes from the building. There are plant pots along the first-floor window sills.
