These notes formed a sequel to chapters 6 and 7 of MVW's A short introduction to numerical analysis. With a thank you card following the PDE course, 1980, signed by Mike Whittaker, Nick Young, C. H. Huang (?), Abbas Moballegh, Peter Wong, Dave Carter and Jo Marks.
