From Derby [Bardsley was stationed in the Derbishire circuit between 1771 and 1773] to John Lever in Manchester. Bardsley enjoys reasonable health and spirits. He was protected by God in his journey. He called at Macclesfield and preached, before continuing to Derby which he reached safely. Many wish to hear God's word in these parts and they have more places to preach at than they can supply. Spiritual matters are discussed in detail. Lever should be 'diligent in the means of grace' and if he has not yet joined the Methodist society, he should delay no longer. Spiritual matters are further discussed. 'I think you have cause to be thankful, that you are fixd in such a family as you are. You may serve God and Mr John [Phillips?] will approve of it.you must be thankful when you are among customers: It will be well to remember the words of the wise man "My son if sinners entice thee consent thou not".' His regards should be passed to John Phillips and his wife and his love to Lever's parents - he hopes that Lever visits them often. If he sees Bardsley's dear old mother [Martha], he would be obliged if Lever could pass on his respects.
