Samuel Tuke had responsibility for Lawler's maintenance but Tuke died in October 1857. Correspondence concerns successor to Tuke in matter of maintenance, payment of maintenance arrears and sums for future maintenance. After death of Lawler in January 1861, further correspondence over payment of his funeral expenses. Much protracted legal negotiation. Correspondents are: H J Ware [Treasurer]; Messrs Bell, Broderick and Bell [London agents]; Boys and Tweedie [representing York Lunatic Asylum]; Messrs Glyn and Co [agents of Swann and Co, bankers]; W W Howard [Secretary and Steward to the Asylum]; John Swann [banker and Chairman of Governors of Asylum, successor in this matter to Samuel Tuke]
