Administrative / Biographical History

Glen A. Taylor (1881-1935) was the son of Henry and Jane Taylor. His family were the Taylors who were associated with the Neath Abbey Iron Works, and who were amongst the partners who took on the firm when it finally closed. This firm then ultimately became Taylor and Sons Ltd. in 1882, moving to Briton Ferry where it is still in existence today. The senior partner was Fred J. Taylor of Holmdale, Court Sart, elder brother of Glen.Glen Taylor was instrumental in establishing the Neath Antiquarian Society and in particular in founding its extensive archive collections. He also was an advocate of the establishment of a Neath Records Repository which would have extinguished the need to documents relating to the Neath area being kept at the National Library in Aberystwyth and at Cardiff Public Library. Glen Taylor's prime interest was in Neath Abbey and he lead the excavation party who removed tons of rubble from amongst the ruins. He extensively researched Cistercian abbeys in England and Wales. After his death a memorial plaque was fixed by the Night Stair at Neath Abbey.
