Letter from Auchinleck to Gen. Sir Alan Brooke, Chief of the Imperial General Staff, thanking him for approving the Middle East Higher Commanders' Course (see AUC/761 and AUC/762 above), but expressing disappointment that the chosen location is Palestine, not South Africa, and that the Chief of the Imperial General Staff has decided not to appoint [Eric] Dorman-Smith as its leader; raising the problem of higher command on the northern front, and suggesting three possible solutions; and asking him to reconsider his decision not to promote [Maj.-Gen. Bernard] Freyberg and [Maj.-Gen. Leslie] Morshead to be Lieutenant-Generals. Typescript.
