Draft letter from Clift to St. Rome

Scope and Content

Congratulates St. Rome on the news of his marriage. Gives news of the Roche family. Clift's nephew ill with "prenitis". The catalogue of the museum is in progress but no part of it is ready for the press "the labour and the almost insuperable difficulty of the undertaking has been far greater than I could have anticipated - or I should, I think, certainly have been deterred from attempting it in toto." Describes the library of the Royal College of Surgeons. Items have been recently purchased for the museum from the sale of Mr Brooker's anatomical collection and others. Clift's son now demonstrates the contents of the museum in order to allow Clift time to catalogue. Mr Abernethy has resigned from St Bartholomew's. Gives news of friends. Mr Charles Hyde has married Miss Haughton.
