Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Written by Peter Cox and directed by Robert Rae for the Rhayader Community Play Association. The Lost Harp is set in the nineteenth century and touches on the lives and relationships of several ficitious characters, reflecting the struggles of lives long past in the Rhayader community.
The 1992 success of The Valley of Nantgwyllt acted as the catalyst for discussion on organising a large scale Community Arts project for Rhayder and District, an investigation into what a whole community could achieve through the medium of a community play. The result, The Lost Harp, stirred the imaginations of the people of Rhayader and from this CARAD (Community Arts Rhayader And District) emerged. It is estimated that 1 in 15 of the local population was involved with the play in some way. The cast consisted of over 130 non-professional locals, whilst others took on research and production management roles.
