Administrative / Biographical History
Samuel Burnside Boyd McElderry (1885-1984) worked in the Hong KongAdministrative Service, 1909-1928. He then gained the post of Deputy ChiefSecretary, Tanganyika, 1929-1933 and Chief Secretary, Zanzibar, 1933-1940.He was attached to the office of High Commissioner for Basutoland,Bechuanaland Protectorate and Swaziland (Pretoria and Cape Town), 1940-1945,and was then temporarily employed by the Colonial Office, 1945-1946. He was a Member of Council, Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind, 1951-1970and a member of the Royal National Institute for the Blind, 1958-1970. In 1913he married Mildred Mary Orme, with whom he had three daughters.
