    • History

Heriot-Watt University was founded in 1821 as the School of Arts, the world's first Mechanics's Institute. Heritage and Information Governance is the official place of deposit for archives created by and about the University.

The Textile Collection at the Scottish Borders Campus was originally developed by the staff at the Scottish College of Textiles as a resource to support teaching, learning and research. Management of the archive was transferred to Heriot-Watt University at the merger in 1998.
