Business, trade union and friendly societies’ archives
• Records of local industrial and commercial activities including textiles, banking,
brewing, clay and brick making, clock making, coal mining, printing, stone quarrying
and wire manufacturing
• Family and estate records, including the world famous UNESCO award winning
diaries of Anne Lister of Shibden Hall (1806-1840)
• A variety of solicitors’ collections including the papers of Robert Parker, an 18th
century Halifax attorney, which contain some of the only material surviving about
the activities of the infamous Cragg
