Administrative / Biographical History

County Courts were established in 1846 under an Act for the recovery of small debts and demands. They were also given jurisdiction over insolvencies and bankruptcies by the Bankruptcy Acts, 1846 and 1869. At various dates they also dealt with certain property cases, leasehold actions, winding-up of companies, adoptions, divorces and workmen's compensation.
