Diary, in dramatic form from 30 Dec. 1890 to 16 Jan. 1891, followed by a prose summary of the period from then until 15 April 1891, during which time the appearance of the first issue of The Debater is noted, a short entry for 16 April 1891 and a final note dated August 1891; 1890-1891. Interspersed with a draft of the story 'The white cockade' (see also Add. 73303 B, 73317 D) (f. 60v), fragmentary poems, school essays and sketches, and poems 'Church and king' (ff. 1-1v), 'Russia' (ff. 73v-74), 'Satan' (f. 75) and 'The tyrant's punishment' (ff. 78-79), poem beginning "I stood upon a lonely bridge" (ff. 74v, 75v-76v).
