G. K. CHESTERTON PAPERS. VOLS. CC-CCLIV. A collection of cuttings from newspapers and periodicals of reviews and criticism of Chesterton and his works, of speeches and debates, of biographical articles, including obituaries of Chesterton, of articles containing brief quotations from and references to Chesterton; 1899-1986. Printed. Many earlier volumes were destroyed by Chesterton when his mother died in 1933 (Ward, Gilbert Keith Chesterton, p. 536). The volumes were compiled initially by Edward Chesterton and subsequently by Frances Chesterton and Dorothy Collins, who used cuttings supplied by Durrant's Press Agency, and gave numbers to each volume. The first 31 volumes were arranged roughly chronologically but with some grouping of reviews of individual works, etc. (vol. 21 of the original set, concerning Frances Chesterton is now Add. 73469, vol. 29, concerning Hilaire Belloc, is with Add. 73480 A, and vol. 31 is incorporated with cuttings of articles by Chesterton; two volumes not numbered by Dorothy Collins are incorporated into this sequence), the original volumes 32 to 53 (now Add. 73415-73438) covered the years 1955 to 1976 in chronological order, with minor cuttings placed in envelopes at the end of each volume. Most volumes were partially indexed and these lists are brought together in Add. 73439. Cuttings from 1976 to 1977 were not indexed, and those from 1978 to 1986 were neither mounted nor indexed by Dorothy Collins.Fifty-five volumes.
