Administrative / Biographical History
The Society of Clerks of Urban District Councils was formed in 1927 following the amalgamation of the National Association of Clerks of Urban District Councils and the Urban Council Clerks' Association. The Society's membership was open to all Clerks of Urban District Councils in England and Wales and its management was vested in an Executive Committee. Its objects were: the regulation of the relations between members of the society and their employers; the promotion of the welfare of the members and the provision of opportunities for association between them with a view to united action in all matters affecting their interests; the taking of joint action with other associations with similar aims. It was affiliated to the National Association of Local Government Officers.
