T. Wynne Thomas, of Aberdovey (Aberdyfi), Merionethsire, was a Councillor. He was interested in the history of Aberdovey, wrote several articles about it. The Cambrian Railways Act of 25th July 1864 had created the Cambrian Railways (CR) Company from four constituent companies. They were the Oswestry & Newtown Railway (O&N), The Llanidloes & Newtown Railway (L&N), Newtown & Machynlleth Railway (N&M) and Oswestry Ellesmere & Whitchurch Railway (OE&W) became the Cambrian Railways. The Aberystwyth & Welsh Coast Railway (A&WC) was brought in 1865, but the Mid-Wales remained outside. The Coast Railway line was opened for traffic from Aberystwyth to Machynlleth and from Aberdovey to Llwyngwril. The line from Aberdovey Station to Llwyngwril was connected to the port of Aberdovey by the Harbour branch in 1863. Aberdovey was already a maritime port when the railways arrived.
