Scope and Content

Confirms the rights and privileges granted by Stephen, Count of Mortain (later King Stephen) in his charter of 1127 by which Furness Abbey was founded.

John took possession of the Honour and County of Lancaster on the death of Henry II in 1189. Since this was confiscated by his brother Richard I in 1194 the document may be dated 1189-1194. John became king after Richard's death in 1199.

Kept with inaccurate 18th century transcription.
