Scope and Content

'The name Chakma comes from the Maghi word chaok .meaning "of mixed origin", and these people are, according to Mills, probably mainly the descendants of Maghi women and Mogul soldiers. In appearance, dress and language they resemble the Bengalis, but their ancient, now mainly obsolete, script is of the Burmese or ancient Khmer type.'
