Woman pounding rice

Scope and Content

B&W photographic print. 'A woman pounding rice in a hollowed-out log. She wears a brief, dark blue skirt open on the left side. Two carrying baskets stand nearby, together with a winnowing fan of the "sugar scoop" shape similar to those used by the Nagas, not of the round type used by all the other tribes in the Hill Tracts. Chickens and a pig forage around her. The pig is an important sacrificial animal and also plays a vital role in helping to keep the villages clean.'
