Jumping place, Guilong

Scope and Content

B&W photographic print. 'This is a long heap of soft earth with at one end a tilted block of stone, the hazoa, seen on the right of the picture, from which young men take off in a ritualised long jump after the harvest is brought in. This is the ritual centre of the village, and it is under the hazoa stone that heads taken in war are buried.'
