New Year's figure representing man

Scope and Content

B&W photographic print. 'A conventionalised figure of a man placed high above the ground between two poles. During the New Year festival darts are thrown at it, a hit meaning good crops. Mills remarks that it is "about as obvious a remnant of human sacrifice as one could find, and a close parallel to the Lotha (Lhota) opya" (see G.15).'
