In his opening line Rodger addresses his audience by saying, "The three of us who have been asked to speak to you tonight are all psychiatrists" but the location of this lecture is unknown and it is not clear who he is lecturing. The other psychiatrists are names as Dr Sclare and Dr Kiernan. The lecture covers a discussion of tension and conflict between ourselved and those around us, the Second Industrial Revolution, material aspects of our society as the source of stress, the speed of modern life, and noise distubance
