Note
A Galick and English Vocabulary by Alexander MacDonald was printed in 1741 for the use of charity schools in the Highlands administered by the Society in Scotland for Propagating Christian Knowledge. This first printed dictionary in Gaelic, composed by the poet Alexander MacDonald (c.1700-c.1770), Alasdair mac Mhaighstir Alasdair, at that time a schoolmaster in Ardnamurchan.
