This small subgroup consists of papers generated by Joan Patterson (JP) during her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at University College, Nottingham, before she met and married DW. She studied French at undergraduate level and went on to the Teachers Training Department in the same institution to study for a teaching certificate, before taking up a post as a teacher in Nottingham in 1940. The papers include most of her exam scripts from undergraduate level, lecture and course notes from the same French BA (Hons) degree, and notes taken during the course of her teaching qualification. The material gives some insight into undergraduate education, and into the theory and practice of teaching at the time.
