After her studies, Martin worked at Belvidere and Mearnskirk hospitals in Glasgow as a child and maternity welfare officer. She married Russell Dickson Martin (1901-1998), a medical officer in Clydebank, Inverness and Edinburgh, in 1936 and they had three children together. She died in 2002.
