Scope and Content

Works and correspondence of A.C. and E.F. Benson, and other papers of the Benson family. The collection is arranged into three sections:  

  • Works of A.C. Benson, and other members of the family (except E.F. Benson), consisting of novels, biographies, essays, poems, plays, religious books, and diaries
  • Novels and other works of E.F. Benson, consisting of novels, short stories, plays, and essays
  • Correspondence, including correspondence of Edward White Benson and his wife

Administrative / Biographical History

Arthur Christopher Benson (1862-1925) and Edward Frederic Benson (1867-1940), both authors, were sons of Edward White Benson (1829-1896), Archbishop of Canterbury. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.
