Augustus Theodore Bartholomew (1882-1933) attended Peterhouse, Cambridge (M.A., 1908). He was Assistant Librarian at Cambridge University Library.

The letters were given to Alan Bell by Charles Ballantyne in 1978, who had received them from W.H. Haslam when the latter was in his late eighties.
