Scope and Content

Contains correspondence regarding the American explosion of a megaton atomic weapon at high altitude. Includes many letters and telegrams expressing concern over this, a number of articles and a statement to the press by BL. There are also letters of encouragement (and condemnation) from the public, academics and authorities, urging BL to make his protests widely known. BL’s replies are also included. In addition, there are copies of The artificial radiation belt , by A.P. Wilmore.

Folder 2 contains letters, copies of the New Scientist and Saturday Review which contain articles related to the subject and a number of reports by BL. There is also a cover note by BL explaining the content of the file, and gives a brief description of what happened when the bomb was set off.
