"New projects"

Scope and Content

Most of the file relates to early work on the Mark II telescope., but it also covers some of the background to the Fleck Committee (Lovell's position paper "The development of steerable radio telescopes for radio astronomy in Great Britain". There are also papers relating to other contemporary projects including Goonhilly, a Soviet 22m telescope, and the Westerbork array in the Netherlands (originally known as the Benelux Cross project). There is also correspondence with Peter Suher of Harvard Observatory, concerning the benefits or otherwise of a radio telescope steerable in azimuth only.
