Scope and Content

The Mark IA project was a major refurbishment of the Mark I (Lovell) telescope undertaken in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The objectives were to renovate the existing structure and to expand the telescope's power. The alterations undertaken between 1968-74 included new reflecting surface to the telescope and adding a new "bicycle wheel" girder to support the heavier structure.

Includes papers relating to the initial SRC grant. Mainly correspondence between the Observatory and University and the SRC, H C Husbands, the UKAEA about the implementation of the project. Also includes financial statements and a bill of quantities and specifications (1972).
