Page proofs in the form of entire pages or cuttings from proof sheets which were sent out to the contributors to this issue. These were corrected by the authors and returned, often along with the slip which was sent out with them requesting their return to Val Warner, and sometimes signed by the author. In three cases there are notes from authors sent to accompany their proofs (from C.H. Sisson, Gareth Reeves and Stan Smith), and in six cases letters to Val Warner relating to the proofs (from Robert Wells, Alan Munton, Clive Wilmer, Alan Young, Eric Homberger and Michael Cayley). This set lacks the proofs of Schmidt's editorial, Octavio Paz's essay, and Michael Vince's poems. Calvin Bedient's proofs are stored with five pages of a typescript version of his essay. There are two copies of the poems by Robert Wells and Dick Davis, and the published letter from Alan Munton.
Scope and Content
These proofs were not stored in any particular order, although the proofs of all contributions by each writer who contributed more than one piece were bundled together. Now the proofs are arranged broadly in the order in which the pieces appeared in the publication, although the archivist has not separated bundles relating to a single author; where an author made more than one contribution their proofs are inserted at the point where the first piece appeared in the magazine. The archivist has added running numbers to each piece.
