Scope and Content

Manuscript of the anthology, in the form of a typescript introduction and preliminaries (some of the latter supplied by Carcanet) with poetry texts photocopied from published sources (although three whole poems and parts of three others have been freshly typed). The introduction has been very heavily edited by Val Warner (Stanford's correspondence file at CPA/2/1/68 contains letters relating to this editorial revision). Warner has also added printing instructions in pencil throughout, and further markup has been added in pencil by the printing house. The manuscript is stored with a letter from Stanford dated 12 January 1974 relating to his acceptance of the editorial changes, and lists of queries and comments on the manuscript compiled by Warner.

There is some inconsistency in the original foliation and some missing folios, with additional unnumbered sheets at the beginning. The archivist has therefore added running numbers at the top left corner of each sheet.
