Scope and Content

Manuscript of the anthology, which takes the form of typescripts, photocopy typescripts, photocopies from publications, and one manuscript poem (Schmidt's holograph translation of Helder Macedo's 'Evening'). It consists of a contents list, introduction, and the poetry texts - with the exception of the two concrete poems by Ana Hatherly and the two visual poems by E.M. de Melo e Castro. Minimal mark-up for printing has been made in Schmidt's hand. Schmidt has also made some minor editorial changes to the introduction in blue ink, and appears to have made minor revisions to some of the translations in black ink; there are also further revisions and queries added in pencil and blue ink.

The manuscript has its original foliation (although many of the page numbers have been altered a number of times, presumably due to inserts and later additions). The introduction is numbered i-vi, and the main sequence 1-238 with the following exceptions: folio 64 is missing (because it was extracted and included in the proofs, described in /2); folio 84 is wrongly numbered 64; there is an insert numbered 102A between folios 102 and 103; folios 142, 143 and 171 are missing; and an additional unnumbered sheet is inserted between folios 195 and 196.
