Scope and Content

File containing manuscript and proofs of With all the views: the collected poems of Adrian Stokes, edited with an introduction by Peter Robinson (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1981). It appears that Carcanet undertook the British publication of this book, while Black Swan Books of Redding Ridge, Connecticut, USA, produced an American edition. Black Swan probably supplied Carcanet with their proof sheets, as the proofs here are in a different format to other Carcanet books, and there are no annotations made by Carcanet personnel either on the proofs or the manuscript. It is unclear why Carcanet were also in possession of the manuscript; they may have supplied a photocopy of it to Black Swan for proof production and retained the original; or they may have acquired the manuscript from Black Swan for the Carcanet archive, something Michael Schmidt did in other cases. The Carcanet edition of the book was printed by Billings.
