Manuscript of the texts included in the volume, with no preliminary pages. The manuscript is in the form of photocopy, carbon and ribbon typescript. Schmidt has added some queries and emendations, mainly in green ink; Osers (the translator) has written responses to these or emended in accordance with Schmidt's suggestions (mainly in blue). There are only very minimal typesetting instructions as this was carried out in-house. The manuscript proper is preceded by three additional poems by Schäfer translated by Osers, entitled 'Your Hand', 'Lake Shore' and 'Djama Sidi Okba'. It is unclear whether these were ever intended to form part of the selection; they do not appear in the proofs which suggests they were rejected but were simply stored with the other poems in the manuscript. Also stored with a note which was originally inserted between manuscript and author's proofs, stating "Carcanet Archive material for the attention of Mr George Lawson at Rota", suggesting that this file, and probably other book files, were offered for sale at some point through Bertram Rota Ltd, antiquarian booksellers, based in Covent Garden, London.
