Correspondence and papers

Scope and Content

Bundle of correspondence and manuscript material. This includes a photocopy of Part IV of the book taken from the manuscript, which Myfanwy Thomas has emended by hand (her emendations were subsequently inserted into the main manuscript in /2). There are also numerous short sections and slips of typescript material, principally transcripts of Helen Thomas's letters; much of the manuscript was put together by cutting and pasting transcripts together, and this presumably represents the material left over after the editing process on the main manuscript was completed. In addition there is a bundle of correspondence, consisting of: four letters from Myfanwy Thomas to Robert Wells (in one of which she encloses a letter from Neville Braybrooke) and six to Michael Schmidt; two copy letters from Wells to Thomas; and one envelope addressed to Thomas from an unidentified sender. The correspondence relates to: photographs supplied by Thomas for possible inclusion in the book; the choice of title; the copy-editing process undertaken by Wells; Thomas's return of the corrected proofs in March 1978; and plans for complimentary copies.

No attempt has been made to reconstruct the order of the typescript transcripts, many of which are on small slips of paper. The archivist has added a simple running number to each piece of paper or envelope in the file.
