Scope and Content

Manuscript of the collection, consisting of dedication, epigraph, contents, and poem texts. This takes the form of ribbon and photocopy typescripts, and photocopies taken from publications. It has been marked up in red with typesetting instructions by Jay himself (who was also a poetry publisher). Stored with: four letters to Schmidt from Jay (22 October-8 December 1979) relating to the submission of the manuscript, subsequent additions and revisions, and his requests for format and layout; in one letter he also encloses a statement about the plans of his press, Anvil, to publish modern poets in translation. With Jay's original folder in which the manuscript was submitted.

Due to the inclusion of additional papers and the nature of Jay's page numbering (which reflects projected page divisions in the published volume rather than foliation), the archivist has added running numbers at the top left of each sheet.
