Unmarked page proofs

Scope and Content

Page proofs of the volume, in the form of two facing pages copied onto a series of foolscap sheets; the text begins at the Foreword, so preliminaries are not included; otherwise the proofs are complete. They are unmarked and represent a version of the text which was quite extensively corrected before publication; they are retained here as the only surviving document representing the proof stage of the book's publication. Stored with a delivery note from the printers and a carbon order for a letter in a specific typeface.
